Parasite research

Parasites have the potential to limit the growth of Australian fishing industries through mortality, morbidity and reduced marketability. A majority of the parasites of recreational, commercial and farmed southern Australian fish have not been collected, studied or described.

Here at the Marine Parasitology Laboratory in Townsville, Queensland and also in Adelaide, South Australia, we study the parasites of important marine fish species.

On this website, you will find information on these parasites including what they look like, where you’ll find them on the fish and how they may impact on their host. Information is presented in printable posters under the ‘Fish hosts’ menu item.
